As our plumbing fiasco transpired yesterday, I made another “wonderful” discovery in our house. In our bedroom, behind our bed is an access panel for the guest bathroom, built in so that you can get to the front of the tub’s plumbing. It also happens to adjoin to our master bathroom, so when we were trying to discover the point at which the leak was happening, I had the idea to move our bed and open up the panel. I had hoped that I would be able to at least see if there was a leak coming from our sink, and maybe be able to gain some insight into where water was coming from. MC helped me move our (extremely heavy) bed and scatter it throughout our room. (I forgot to take a pic, so here it is from when we originally painted).

It took me a while to get that sucker off, probably because we foolishly painted over it causing it to really stick in there. After about 20 minutes or so of struggling, it finally started to budge, and after a few good pulls, it popped off. My moment of victory was soon shattered when I realized that the only thing the access panel actually accessed was drywall.

Really. I mean…REALLY!!? Why have an access panel to DRYWALL? How does that give you access to plumbing, oh right, it doesn’t! Still in a frantic state of mind, I decided that it would be best if I just chipped away at the drywall, because I still had no idea at this time where the leak was coming from, and any more information would surely help me, and more importantly, help the plumber find it. So, chip away I did, until it was finally accessible.

FINALLY, I was able to see the plumbing, and the tub, and a huge mess. The plumber was appreciative that I opened it up for him, and it really did help us determine that the sink was not the culprit as we could visually see the pipe and drain, so at least all that work paid off. I did reattach the panel so that in the future I could access it much easier, of course after I move the bed and all again. Hopefully I won’t need to get in there, but if I do, I can.
